be ready to step up to the plate?

Undercover in the glamorous world of
Buenos Aires’ wealthy elite, Page finds himself on the brink of a
terrible discovery. General Estrada and Colonel Schiller have plans for

Helene Dunbar is today’s guest on a Book and a Chat, and though this is her debut book she has been a freelance writer for some years covering subjects from court cases, theater, and Native American Indian tribes to features about fiddles & accordions.

Her debut novel is a moving and thought provoking YA novel “These Gentle Wounds”.

The idea for These Gentle Wounds came from an unfortunate number
of true cases, some of which Helene once wrote about for an educational
book series. In a 2010 case in New York State, one of the children
survived and she started to wonder what his life would be like. Helene followed the real life story and the boy’s life is nothing like
Gordie’s. For better or worse.

About “These Gentle Wounds”:

Sometimes I wish I’d lost a leg or something. Everyone can understand
that. They never get it when what’s been broken is inside your head.

Five
years after an unspeakable tragedy that changed him forever, Gordie
Allen has made a new home with his half-brother Kevin. Their arrangement
works since Kevin is the only person who can protect Gordie at school
and keep him focused on getting his life back on track.

But just
when it seems like things are becoming normal, Gordie’s biological
father comes back into the picture, demanding a place in his life. Now
there’s nothing to stop Gordie from falling into a tailspin that could
cost him everything–including his relationship with Sarah, the first
girl he’s trusted with the truth. With his world spinning out of
control, the only one who can help Gordie is himself . . . if he can
find the strength to confront the past and take back his future.

With a second book already in the editing stage for release next year, I am sure the name Helene Dunbar will continue to be on the must read YA list.

Liz Czukas collects college degrees she doesn’t use, types too loud, and always has a song stuck in her head. She is also one of the YA debut authors in the Class of 2K14 and author of one of the best YA books of this year in the form of “Ask Again Later”.

Having Liz in today’s “A Book and a Chat” was something I had been looking forward to after reading about her and the reviews of this debut book, and the show was no disappointment.

From an early age Liz has always dabbled in writing, not thinking she could make a career of it. Instead she studied Anthropology (Indiana Jones inspired), History (because she loves all kinds of stories), Classics (more stories), then Nursing (because she needed a job), then Midwifery. Along the way she even learned Spanish though only the words that she might use with a woman giving birth.

Liz got serious again when her son was born, using nap times to create her novels. After a couple of false starts she wrote “Ask Again Later” which was snapped up by a publisher and has opened the flood gates for Liz’s creative writing.

About “Ask Again Later” :

Despite what her name might suggest, Heart has zero interest in complicated romance. So when her brilliant plan to go to prom with a group of friends is disrupted by two surprise invites, Heart knows there’s only one drama-free solution: flip a coin.

Heads: The jock. He might spend all night staring at his ex or throw up in the limo, but how bad can her brother’s best friend really be?

Tails: The theater geek…with a secret. What could be better than a guy who shares all Heart’s interests–even if he wants to share all his feelings?

Heart’s simple coin flip has somehow given her the chance to live out both dates. But where her prom night ends up might be the most surprising thing of all…

With a second book “Top Ten Clues your Clueless” already on the way the name of Liz Czukas is one that will continue to delight all those lovers of YA literature.

So listen now and share an interesting and entertaining show as I chat with my special guest today on A Book and a Chat with Liz Czukas

International best selling thriller writer Allan Topol is my guest on today’s “A Book and a Chat” chatting about his latest his Craig Page thriller The Russian Endgame, the third and final book in trilogy that includes “The Spanish Revenge” and “The China Gambit”. Allan is one of the best thriller writers of today and his books are always a must read.

A lawyer of some not, Allan has used his legal and military knowledge along with locations he has visited in his much traveled life to produce a stream of books that have readers eagerly awaiting his next page turning thriller.

Currently, plans are in the works to make three of the earlier novels “SPY DANCE”, “A WOMAN OF VALOR”, and “DARK AMBITION” to be made into movies. As we learned a screenwriter has already been hired by a producer to write a screenplay for SPY DANCE, and it is nearing completion.

His latest book “The Russian Endgame” is the thrilling closure of the Craig Page trilogy that included “The China Gambit” and “The Spanish Revenge”.

About “The Russian Endgame”: (taken from Amazon)

When former KGB agent Dimitri Orlov orchestrates an alliance between two world powers bent on domination, he unleashes a powerful chain of events that will rock the Western World. The agenda? Eliminate the President of the United States and seize classified military weaponry capable of shifting the balance of world power. But before this nefarious scheme can reach fruition, Craig Page is on the scene, joined by companion Elizabeth Crowder, ready to confront a painful past and the enemies that helped create it. But can the indomitable Director of Counterterrorism emerge victorious?

Finding himself facing an old enemy unexpectedly catapulted into a lethal position of power, Craig is pushed to the limit in an effort to foil his enemy’s deadly plans and keep potentially devastating military technology out of the hands of those prepared to destroy the world as he knows it. Filled with thrills, twists, and danger, The Russian Endgame showcases best-selling author Allan Topol’s talent for delivering electrifying, gripping expeditions into the world of international intrigue.

As Allan shared with us, the end of this trilogy is not the end of Craig Page he will be returning early next year in book “The Argentine Triangle” one I am sure will be another smash hit for this talented thriller writer.

In
her teens Natalie Gayle, author of Finding Trust and the guest on today’s “A
Book and a Chat” took an occupational test and it said I should be a writer.
She did not think anything more of it creating a career as a project manager in
IT, all the time though this longing to become a writer was there bubbling
under the surface.

As
we learned during an entertaining though due to phone issues a sometimes interrupted
show, this hidden need to write finally produced Natalie’s debut novel Finding
Trust”
which was released earlier this year and has been followed by
Finding Judgment”.

Finding
Trust is not your normal romance novel, it is part
contemporary romance, part romantic suspense, and part science fiction …or
paranormal romance with some urban fantasy thrown in for good measure. The
result however is a book that many are already stating is a “must read” and one
that you just can’t put down.

About “Finding Trust”:

He’s hot, sexy, and leads a double life. Sometimes in the limelight, mostly
in the shadows. Brayden James holds fast to a secret that’s more than his to
share.

She’s a singularly focused veterinarian out for a rare night of fun with
friends, at a New Year’s Eve rock concert. Going home with the lead guitarist
was furthest thing from Rihanna Mason’s mind when the night began.

When Rihanna inadvertently becomes the target of a deadly terrorist plot
using the Hendra virus as a biological weapon, Brayden is forced to reveal his
other life.  His job is to keep her safe and together they must stop the
terrorists before it’s too late. But what happens when she becomes more to him
than just the assignment?

Will the secret he cannot disclose ultimately prove too much for Rihanna’s
fragile trust in relationships? Or will he finally break through the double
brick walls around her heart, where every other man has failed?

As
one reviewer stated about what she liked about the book…

WHAT
I LIKED: Everything. I was drawn in from the very first page and the connection
I felt to the characters was intense. Instead of feeling like I was the reader,
I felt like I was every characters; I loved when they did, cried when they did,
jumped in surprise when they did, etc. I felt like these characters and the
story were pouring out of the pages and into my apartment. The author is very
talented and has gained a new fan… Me.

Well
reviewer I too have joined the band of fans of Natalie Gayle

After six shows about bullying it is good to get back to my normal format, not that I have not enjoyed and found very informational the shows on the bullying subject. I could not have asked for a better guest to get back into the old routine than New York Times and USA Today and International best selling and award winning Historical Romance author Danelle (yes that’s spelt right) Harmon.

Danelle has a life that almost matches her own writings when it comes to romance, leaving her home and family and travelling 3000 miles to be with somebody she’d met and fallen in love with on the internet.  Having been in the same boat… rather airplane as her but while my trip was from the UK to the USA, Danelle followed her heart to be with and marry the man she’d fallen in love with in England.

As Danelle describes it…

How did a Yankee girl who used to be a 1775-era minuteman in a Boston re-enactment group end up in ENGLAND, of all places? Well, in 1994, I met a wonderful man over the Internet. He was handsome, intelligent, all that a romantic hero should be… but there was just one little catch — he was English, and lived 3,000 miles away! Love always wins in the end, though, and following a romantic courtship in which our gilded coaches bore the names “British Airways” and “Virgin Atlantic,” the good doctor from England asked me to marry him.

This romance can be found in her award winning historical romance books which have received many hundreds of fantastic reviews on Amazon.

From her first book “Pirate in Arms” to her “Hero’s of the Sea” and “De Montforte” series the name Danelle Harmon has become one that all lovers of historical romance have read an enjoyed. Indeed her book “The Wild One” (first in the “De Montforte” series) has well over 500 reviews on Amazon.

Now after a break to start and raise a family, Danelle is back not only with her books being now released in updated EBook format, but with a fresh book in the “De Montforte” series heading for  the publisher.

About “The Wild One”: (taken from Amazon)

Lord Gareth de Montforte is an irresponsible, fun-loving rake when beautiful Juliet Paige arrives from America with his late brother’s baby, hoping to give the child a name. Gareth impulsively weds her, only to discover he wasn’t ready for all the responsibilities of marriage and fatherhood. They’re in for plenty of trouble and heartache, until they discover that their love can overcome anything.

Danelle was described in -Laurie Likes Books thus…

Author Danelle Harmon is known on the ‘Net for her fiery demeanor and the romantic way in which she met her husband. She is also known as an author’s author — witness Julia Quinn’s comments about her, “Danelle is one of maybe four writers I will buy without even looking at the back cover copy. People hold on to her books, and with good reason.”

A great show, with a great author. So listen now and share an interesting, and entertaining show as I chat with my special guest today on A Book and a Chat with Danelle Harmon

Today is another one hour special as I chat with another member of the debut YA and Mid-grade authors from the class of 2K13. Polly Holyoke is my guest, and when you can write about many of the things you love around a subject you feel strongly about the outcome is bound to be a great book, and so it is with Polly’s debut novel “The Neptune Project”.

Polly has been imagining stories since she was in fifth grade and when she isn’t writing, she loves reading, camping, skiing, scuba diving and hiking in the desert, though she did once get herself bitten by a rattlesnake.

When it came to “The Neptune Project” it really helped that she had done quite a bit of scuba diving over the years. Those she has never lived by the sea, she has spent enough hours  under the waves to be able to describe some of the basics—like light, visibility and currents as well as hours and hours reading books on oceanography and articles by avid divers.

About “The Neptune Project” : (Taken from the authors web site)

With her weak eyes and useless lungs that often leave her gasping for air, Nere feels more at home swimming with the dolphins her mother studies than she does hanging out with her classmates. Nere has never understood why she is so much more comfortable and confident in the water than on land until the day she learns the shocking truth—she is one of a group of kids who have been genetically altered to survive in the ocean. These products of the “Neptune Project” are supposed to build a better future under the waves, safe from the terrible famines and wars and that rock the surface world.

But there are some big challenges ahead of her: no one ever asked Nere if she wanted to be part of a science experiment; the other Neptune kids aren’t exactly the friendliest bunch, and in order to reach the safe haven of the new Neptune colony, Nere and her fellow mutates must swim across hundreds of miles of dangerous ocean, relying on their wits, their loyal dolphins and one another to evade terrifying undersea creatures and a government that will stop at nothing to capture the Neptune kids … dead or alive.

Fierce battle and daring escapes abound as Nere and her friend race to safety in this action-packed marine adventure.

As one reviewer put it…
I loved this book! I can’t wait to find out what happens next. I would
recommend this book to children and adults. I bought a copy for the ten
year old boy that I nanny for, he read it in one day and immediately
asked if there was a sequel yet. He’s an avid reader and he loved it! I
bought another copy for my 11 year old niece, can’t wait to give it to
her! I will let you know what she thinks.

The characters were great, and the book is packed with adventure from start to finish. I can picture it all on the big screen!

The book is one of those that appeals to both girls and boys, young and old and I highly recommend it to all.
