My guest on today’s “A Book and a Chat” is Lyn Croft, a sci-fi fantasy writer born and raised in sunny Southern California. There, she raises her daughter, works full time, writes novels, and plays video games in her spare time. Her debut novel “Blood & Lilies” was the first in “Bloodlines” a series of epic tales for the battle between good and evil.

This successful novel has now been followed, perhaps with the aid of y Buffy and Angel DVD’s; by book two “Blood and Kindred”.

About “Blood and Kindred”:

Cara expected a relaxing spring break, free from studying, free from exams. Instead, her reality has been crushed as she is thrown into a world of the supernatural and finds out that the very battle between Heaven and Hell centers around her.

Halflings, Vampyres, and Werewolves are now part of her reality as she struggles to survive.

Her best friend is now a vampyre and Zillah, the ancient vampyre queen is still hot on her trail. New enemies emerge as lost loved ones resurface. In this exciting sequel to BLOOD and LILIES, the Halflings fight to protect the key while everywhere they turn; they face betrayal and new enemies.

Will Eamon lose Cara forever when she finds out the secrets behind the Halfling’s heritage and learns what she truly is? Or will Zillah finally win in her quest and open the portal between all realms, destroying our mortal reality and the key along with it?

My guest on today’s “A Book and a Chat” is award winning author Mike Faricy .  His novels are an addictive
combination of mystery and suspense woven together with a rich strain of
humor and a bit of romance.

Always into books from an early age Mike entertaining and engrossing tales are filled with the sort of quirky, oddball characters many would like to know more about, but wisely prefer to keep at a distance. Many of the characters serve, not so much as examples of real people, but more as warnings to the rest of us of the darker side of humanity. Readers will not find characters who are saving the world from terrorism, international banking conspiracies, or coups to topple the government. Rather, they are part of our world, living just below the surface of polite society. The difficulties the characters find themselves in are usually due to their own bad decisions, but then, bad decisions make for interesting tales.

From Mike’s first book “Slow, Slow, Quick, Quick” his crime novel which now number 14 include seven in the marvelous series which introduces us to the bizarrely devilish Devlin Haskell as a PI with a foot on both sides of the law. From the first book in the series “Russian Roulette” through others such as “Mr. Softee “ and “Bite Me” to his latest release the “Ting-a-ling”.

About “Ting-A-Ling”

Continuing the Dev Haskell – Private Investigator Series with Case 7

After answering Danielle’s middle of the night phone call, private investigator Dev Haskell offers to help. It’s a simple task. All he has to do is deliver a message to her former business partner. The next thing he knows, Dev is involved in a missing person case and he can’t find his client or her business partner. That turns out to be the least of his problems when he finds himself on the hook for murder and all the evidence points toward him.

Meanwhile, an incident from his childhood continues to haunt Dev. With his very freedom hanging in the balance everything seems to be beyond his control. He’ll need all his skill and a good deal of luck to save himself. In a tale fraught with danger, Mike Faricy, Master of the Bizarre lays one twist on top of another until a murder rap becomes the least of Dev’s problems.

H. A. Somerled (Heather) todays guest on “A Book and a Chat”  lives in the Missoula, Montana area.

After an uneventful tour in the U.S. Navy, she followed her passions and enrolled in Culinary School. She graduated from the Colorado Institute of Art and has also completed a writing course from the Long Ridge Writer’s Group.

From an early age Heather wrote little stories including one about her morning routine where her mother says “Now is the time is the time is the time.” In eighth grade she had a teacher who encouraged pupils to write a journal and hand it in every week. Heather wrote about a creature in her locker (named the Lockerness Monster) who ate her homework, stole one gym sock or shoe, and caused her a lot of grief in middle school. Since then she has written short stories whenever the inspiration hit her.

After watching Sherlock and The Adventures of Merlin and fascinated by the two main actors, (Benedict Cumberbatch and Colin Morgan) Heather thought they could play brothers. Then she thought they could be a police officer and a smart ass brother who always got in trouble. Threw in a female American hacker to spice things up, and it blossomed into her debut novel “Angel’s Code”, which is now closely followed by “Angel’s Betrayal” both part of the “Angel Hacker Series”.

About “Angel’s Betrayal”

Its summertime and insects are not the only thing flying in the London skies. Oliver and Danny Murray return in this explosive second in the series novel. When two C.I.A. agents appear in Oliver Murray’s office, he knows nothing good could come from it. An American drone has gone missing and the agents believe the one of their own has taken it. The agent’s name is Sara Parsons, also known as Fallen Angel. Maintaining her innocence, Angel tries to find the real thief, but when one of the agents sent to arrest her turns up dead in her flat, Oliver has a hard time believing her. With the help from his brother, Danny, Oliver betrays his own instincts and decides to help Angel find the true murderer and drone thief.

As one reviewer put it… “Intelligent and fast paced, the action is very fun to read with the author’s irreverent humor sprinkled throughout the story”. The name H.A. Somerled is one to look for on your book shelves.

Helene Dunbar is today’s guest on a Book and a Chat, and though this is her debut book she has been a freelance writer for some years covering subjects from court cases, theater, and Native American Indian tribes to features about fiddles & accordions.

Her debut novel is a moving and thought provoking YA novel “These Gentle Wounds”.

The idea for These Gentle Wounds came from an unfortunate number
of true cases, some of which Helene once wrote about for an educational
book series. In a 2010 case in New York State, one of the children
survived and she started to wonder what his life would be like. Helene followed the real life story and the boy’s life is nothing like
Gordie’s. For better or worse.

About “These Gentle Wounds”:

Sometimes I wish I’d lost a leg or something. Everyone can understand
that. They never get it when what’s been broken is inside your head.

Five
years after an unspeakable tragedy that changed him forever, Gordie
Allen has made a new home with his half-brother Kevin. Their arrangement
works since Kevin is the only person who can protect Gordie at school
and keep him focused on getting his life back on track.

But just
when it seems like things are becoming normal, Gordie’s biological
father comes back into the picture, demanding a place in his life. Now
there’s nothing to stop Gordie from falling into a tailspin that could
cost him everything–including his relationship with Sarah, the first
girl he’s trusted with the truth. With his world spinning out of
control, the only one who can help Gordie is himself . . . if he can
find the strength to confront the past and take back his future.

With a second book already in the editing stage for release next year, I am sure the name Helene Dunbar will continue to be on the must read YA list.

I first came across Nicole Cushing, today’s guest on “A Book and a Chat” back in early 2013 when there was an event around the blogosphere called “The Next Big Thing” where author’s blogged about their current master piece
being worked on or due to be released.

At that time I did a show jumping from one of these blogs to another sharing with the listeners various “next big
things” I found. Since that show I have shared shows with many of those authors whose blogs I stopped at.

Nicole’s “next big thing” is her stunning debut novella “Children of No One”.

When you read reviews that describe the book as… “Sadism, nihilism,
poverty, wealth, screams, whimpers, sanity and madness collide in
Nowhere, Indiana.” You know it is something different.

While a dark novel with many characters that one would normally just despise
and in fact cringe at in many places it is written in such a way that
you can’t but keep turning the page. The characters are so well
described you can from the words immediately picture them in your mind’s
eye.

Now Nicole brings us a brand new book in the form of “I Am the New God”. The book takes the reader on a tour through a couple disturbed minds that tends to
warp reality. it is a fairly brutal novella that is shocking not
only for its graphic nature at times but also for its unfiltered look at
what shapes reality and religion. Nicole is not afraid to shock the
reader and she pulls no punches in telling the story.

As with “Children
of No One
,” there are times in which the book is shocking and
disturbing and there are no apologies for this. The novella is a very
dark and frightening look at religion and how it can shape the world
even if it is not in the way that is easily recognizable. This story
delves to the darkest depths of the human psyche and illustrates the
fine line between creation and cruelty.

About  “I Am the New God” : (Taken from examiner.com)

Gregory Bryce has finally achieved a small level of freedom. Due to
his mental and emotional problems, he had always been sheltered by his
parents as they sought to keep him safe from the world. Now that he is
in college, he is on his own for the first time and experiencing a lot
of new things. Everything seemed to be going well for Greg. That all
changed when he received the first letter.

The letter is from a hierophant who believes the Gregory is destined
to become a god or a devil. It is up to the hierophant to guide Greg on
his road to godhood. The hierophant, a fallen minister, has received
the seven steps to godhood from John the Baptist and feels that it is
his destiny to lead Greg to godhood. As the process begins, however,
the hierophant becomes convinced that there is little difference between
a god and a devil and he is afraid that Greg could go astray. Greg
sets out on the path that the letters set forth and begins a slide into
his destiny. The outcome of this journey is very uncertain.

Miriam Laundry is today’s guest on “A Book and a Chat” she writes books that empower children to make choices that promote confidence, happiness and responsibility. Miriam is the creator of the “I CAN” book series.

The passing of her 17 year-old niece from depression made Miriam reflect on her own children.  She was told to look for signs of depression in them because depression is hereditary.  This information changed everything for Miriam.

Deciding not to sit around and wait for these signs to appear, she took the proactive approach and filled my children’s minds with positive things.  Not being able to find many books that empowered them and that helped with self-esteem Miriam decided to write one herself.

The message of “I CAN” is very important, she believes that if a child learns to have an “I CAN” attitude early in life they will be able to use this later in their teenage and adult years when more difficult situations arise.

Her book, I CAN, is making a difference in children’s lives. “I CAN Believe in Myself” became a #1 Bestseller on Amazon on its release date in June 2013 and has remained in the Top 10 since then. Her book has received many endorsements by global transformational leaders including bestselling authors, Jack Canfield (co-creator Chicken Soup for the Soul), Dr. Kevin Leman, Carol Kline and many others.

About” I CAN Believe in Myself”

Molly has been chosen to be the next Star-of-the-Day! Most kids would be excited. Molly, however, is terrified! She just can’t talk in front of her class. How can Molly get out of this mess? Will her story about a three-headed monster work? How about a note from her mother (whose printing looks strikingly similar to Molly’s). She worries all day. She frets all night. “I CAN’T…I CAN’T…I CAN’T” Molly convinces herself. Or CAN she? Other themes in this book include letting go of fear, compassion, confidence and self-esteem

I believe this is a must read for children parents, grandparents and teachers and with two more books in the series already on the way I am sure the “I CAN” series is one that will continue to help many and grow in popularity. So listen now and share an interesting and entertaining show as I chat with my special guest today on A Book and a Chat with Miriam Laundry

Following the recent list of thriller, mystery writers who have appeared on “A Book and a Chat” comes today’s guest Veronica Faye.

An avid fan of Agatha Christie’s British tea-cozy mysteries and the hard-boiled novels about detective Easy Rawlins by Walter Mosley since she was a teenager, Veronica recently published “My Past Came Knocking: The Savannah Wooten Case” the first in the Gemini Jones series which I’m sure will become a must set of novels for those who love mystery thrillers.

Veronica started writing the book in 2006 when she was going through her own trials and tribulations undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer.

About Gemini Jones – My Past Came Knocking: The Savannah Wooten Case: (taken from PRNews)

Veronica Faye pens a murder mystery that follows two women who find the strength to overcome their painful past. The novel’s lead character, Gemini Jones, is a successful African-American attorney who manages a high-profile career while keeping her bipolar disorder in check. Her newest case revolves around the murder of David Ban, a politician widely beloved in the city’s black community.

The client who brings the case to her is a woman she knows all too well: Savannah Wooten. Both women share a painful past together; Gemini and Savannah were able to overcome their traumatizing ordeals to arrive as successful, accomplished women. Yet the murder of Ban, the politician, will force them to relive the past and deal with secrets they long considered lost to time. To proceed with the legal case, both women will have to reveal painful secrets and uncover the real David Ban that the public never knew.

Full of sharp-witted humor and heart-breaking tragedy, “Gemini Jones” is an engrossing read. In the personality of power lawyer Gemini, author Faye has crafted a character that will be a role model for African-American women and an inspiration to anyone who has ever had to manage bipolar disorder while holding down a professional career. A story of pain, tragedy, endurance and success, the novel sends a powerful message of hope as told through the compelling story of two strong black women.

“Gemini Jones: ‘My Past Came Knocking’ – The Savannah Wooten Case” is a mystery that will lure readers with its message of overcoming adversity, its witty, tough characters and a plot that will get readers quickly turning pages.

With the second in the series already underway, Veronica explained that she wants wants Gemini to be a role model for African-American women as well as an inspiration to those who manage bipolar disorder while holding down a professional career.

Shannon Delany first appeared on “A Book and a Chat” back in 2010 as one of the debut authors from Class of 2K10. Since that time she has become one o f the most popular and followed names in YA. This being the case,  it was great to have her as my first guest as I started a new set of shows on New Vision Radio, all be it after a few early teething issues with the new radio setup.

After growing up writing various articles as a freelance journalist, Shannon wrote a serialized version of “13 to Life” at Textnovel.com and won the first-ever cell phone novel contest in the western world.

This opened the flood gates to her writing future, and agent then a film request and finally a publishing house followed one after the other taking Shannon somewhat by surprise.

The success of “13 to Life” was just the beginning, four more books in the series followed with equal success and an ever expanding audience. Secrets and Shadows, Bargains and Betrayals, Destiny and Deception, and Rivals and Retribution brought the series to a wonderful 5 novel selection.

Now Shannon is showing a slightly darker but still brilliantly written side in her new Weather Witch series.

About the Weather witch series:

Some fled the Old World to avoid war, and some fled to leave behind magic. Yet even the fiercely regulated New World–with its ranks and emphasis on decorum–cannot staunch the power that wells up in certain people, influencing the weather and calling down storms. Hunted, the Weather Witches are forced to power the rest of the population’s ships, as well as their every necessity, and luxury, in a time when steampower is repressed.

Jordan Astraea hails from a flawless background with no taint of magick, but on her seventeenth birthday she is accused of summoning an unscheduled storm. Taken from her family, Jordan is destined to be enslaved on an airship. But breaking Jordan may prove to be the very thing her carefully constructed society cannot weather.

And losing Jordan forever may force her beau, Rowen, to be the hero he would have never otherwise dared become.

“Weather Witch” was released last year with book two “Stormbringer” following up at the beginning of this year. Book three in the series “Thunderstruck” is sdue to be released on  May 20.

The show shared just how far this multi talented lady has come in the few years since her first release and proved that she was just the guest to have for the first show on this new radio station.

It is a big welcome bacl to my guest on today’s “A Book and a Chat” to best-selling novelist, war and human rights correspondent, environmental activist, award-winning poet and international energy expert, Mike Bond.

Mike has lived globetrotting and often dangerous life , he’s  lived and worked in over thirty countries on six continents. An adviser to the US and foreign governments, human rights and war correspondent, award-winning poet and international energy expert, Mike has used his own experience of many dangerous, remote and war-torn regions of the world to enhance his bestselling novels… he is… as the BBC called him…” The master of the existential thriller” .

Mike’s novels are all based on his experiences in far, dangerous corners of the world:
CROSSFIRE: A British undercover agent fights for his life in Beirut at the height of the Lebanese War — a deep look into the Middle East’s ancient wars and hatreds.

FIRE LIKE THE SUN: An international best-seller about U.S. nuclear warheads lost in the Himalayas, a manhunt through Nepal, Iran, Greece, Algeria, France, Virginia and Colorado.

NIGHT OF THE DEAD: Vietnam vet and weed smuggler Joe Murphy loses his plane in a Guatemalan jungle attack, falls in love with the woman guerrilla who heals him, and fights to protect them both as the death squads hunt them down.

THE LAST SAVANNA: A former British commando battles elephant
poachers who then kidnap the woman he loves, in this acclaimed inside
story of Africa’s disappearing savannas, animals and freedoms.

About “The Last Savana”: (taken from Authors Web Page)

With Africa’s last elephants dying under the guns of Somali poachers,
ex-SAS officer Ian MacAdam leads a commando squad against them, to hunt
what for him is the only decent prey – man. Pursuing the poachers
through jungled mountains and searing deserts he battles thirst,
solitude, terror and lethal animals, only to find they have kidnapped a
young archaeologist, Rebecca Hecht, whom he once loved and bitterly
lost.
She escapes the kidnappers, is caught and escapes again to risk
perishing in the desert. MacAdam embarks on a desperate trek to save not
only Rebecca but his own soul in an Africa torn apart by wars,
overpopulation and the slaughter of its last wildlife.

Based on the author’s own experiences pursuing elephant poachers in the wilds of East Africa, The Last Savanna
is an intense personal memoir of humanity’s ancient heartland, its
people and animals, the lonely beauty of its perilous deserts, jungles,
and savannas, and the deep, abiding power of love.

As onbe revevuer wrote about the book…

“Mike Bond takes readers into a literary safari of Africa’s elephant poaching war with The Last Savanna,
a novel that expertly captures the ravenous, chaotic and frustrating
battles raging across the continent . . . and paints a vivid picture of
life in the savanna . . . Bond’s knowledge of the Swahili language,
local culture and even the wildlife result in what may be one of the
most realistic portrayals of Africa yet . . . Bond’s specialty in
producing thrillers that editorialize human weakness and bring to light
pressing world problems shines in The Last SavannaDynamic, heart-breaking and timely to current events, Bond’s latest book is a must-read.” –

Mike Bond’s critically acclaimed novels depict the innate hunger of the human heart for good, the intense joys of love, the terror and fury of battle, the sinister vagaries of politics and multinational corporations, and the magical beauty of the vanishing natural world in thrill a minute, page turning, must read adventures.
