THE ANNUAL RT BOOKLOVERS CONVENTION AND 700 AUTHORS BRING “THE BIG READ” TO THE BIG EASY!

So reads the hand out about the 31st Romantic Times or as it’s now called RT Convention, one the the hundreds of guest authors and speakers at the event is today’s guest on “A Book and a Chat “Renne Bernard.”

What in the world is a retired Navy chaplain’s daughter doing writing
scorching hot historical romances? Renee Bernard is applying a great
education from traveling all over the world to story telling and doing
her best to keep her father proud. Truthfully, her father is her number
one fan, even though he has sworn never to read a single word of her
books (a vow he has kept to this day!) Nothing stops him from telling
everyone he knows that his daughter is now a USA Today Bestselling
author or from handing out bookmarks on the golf course. Love can make
even a minister do strange things!

Renee Bernard is a freelance
writer and a contributor to Romantic Times Bookclub magazine. A Lady’s
Pleasure (Pocket Books, November 2006) was her first novel and won an
award from RT for “Best First Historical Romance of 2006”. She also
wrote a story for the School of Heiresses anthology (Pocket Books,
January 2007), which made the USA Today Bestseller List. Madame’s
Deception, was nominated for “Best Sensual Historical of 2007” by RT and
A Rogue’s Game, the final installment in the Mistress Trilogy, received
4 ½ stars and a Top Pick from RT and is available now.

Her next
books, “The Jaded Gentlemen Series”, are available now. The first book
in the series, Revenge Wears Rubies (Berkley, March 2010) was nominated
for best Sensual Historical of 2010 by RT’s reviewers. Seduction Wears
Sapphires (Berkley, August 2010) is out now and Ecstasy Wears Emeralds
(Berkley, September 2011) will be available for pre-order soon!

About “Desire Wears Diamonds” (A Jaded Gentleman Novel)

WHEN BETRAYAL IS THE ONLY PATH OPEN AND PASSION IS THE ONLY ENEMY HE NEVER ANTICIPATED . . .

The
shy soldier and self-appointed guardian of the Jaded, Michael
Rutherford, is faced with the ultimate test of his loyalty and honor
when he meets the woman who is at once his perfect match and the worst
choice he could ever make. The final battle with the Jaded’s greatest
enemy will force him to choose between the brotherhood he has vowed to
protect and shielding the innocent lady he comes to love. For Michael,
it is a dance with the devil for a chance to taste the kisses of an
angel.

Grace Porter is no ordinary wallflower or shy spinster
hiding in the shadows of her brother’s London home. She is a quiet
rebel with secrets of her own and a woman who dreams of an independent
life, free to pursue her dreams as a writer. Her imagination holds the
key to her survival, but it fuels her retreat from the colorless world
around her. Until Michael Rutherford’s arrival upturns her every
fantasy and threatens her sanctuary with his lies. His embrace is
intoxicating to her senses but Grace isn’t the kind of woman to lose her
head—or her heart.

It’s a knuckle-biting race to the finish for
fans of the Jaded as fan favorite, Michael Rutherford, discovers the
identity of the Jackal and Michael learns that sometimes the price to
pay for justice is the sacrifice of hope and happiness. He will risk
everything as the Jaded call him out as a traitor and nothing is what it
seems.

My guest today is Chris Karslen a native of Chicago, former police detective now romantic suspense author and paranormal romance author. Chris grew up with a love of history and books. Her parents loved traveling, a passion they passed on to their daughter.

Though her desire to write began in her teens, Chris spent twenty-five years in law enforcement with two different agencies before deciding to pursue her dreams.

Now an internationally published author, Chris has traveled extensively throughout Europe, the Near East, and North Africa satisfying her desire to visit the places she’d read about.

Having spent a great deal of time in England and Turkey, she has used her love of both places as settings for her books. “Heroes Live Forever,” which is her debut book, is set in England as is the sequel, “Journey in Time.” Both are part of her “Knights in Time” series. Chris also has “Golden Chariot” and “Byzantine Gold” in her “Dangerous Waters” series.

Chris’s latest novel is “Knight Blindness” book three in the “Knights in Time”

About “Knight Blindness” :

Given a choice between the pleasant life you knew centuries ago or
the possibility of all you want in an uncertain new world, which would you choose?
Two men torn through time find themselves in the modern but alien world.
Old enemies, one hunting the other, one discovering love, both fighting private battles to survive.

Book 3 of The Knights in Time Series

Ready for battle, Medieval English knight, Stephen Palmer, charges into the French enemy’s cavalry line. Heeding a warning given months before, he hesitates as he comes face-to-face with the knight in the warning. Struck down in the year 1356, he finds himself landing in the year 2013.

Grievously wounded, he’s taken to a nearby hospital. Confused by the new world surrounding him, he attempts to convince the staff he’s from another time, only to find they think him mad.

Rescued by friends, who, to his surprise, have also come through time, he must find a way to function in this odd modern England. He is quickly enchanted by the kind Esme Crippen, the young woman hired to tutor him. She too is enchanted by him. Tempted to deepen the relationship, she hesitates thinking him adorable, but mad.

He must discover the means for getting her to believe the truth, all the while, unknown to him, he didn’t come forward in time alone. The enemy knight has also traveled to 2013.

French noble, Roger Marchand, doesn’t question why the English knight who charged him hesitated. That fraction of a pause gave him the advantage needed and he brought his sword down upon the Englishman’s helmet hard, unhorsing the knight. He moved to finish the Englishman off when the world changed in a rush of sensations as he is ripped through time.

Seeking a reason for the terrible event, he enters a nearby chapel. There, thinking God has chosen him for a quest to turn French defeat that day in 1356 to victory, he sets out to find the English knight. The man he is convinced holds the key to time. If he returns to the day of the battle, he can warn his king of mistakes that snatched victory from them.

Vangie Williams is my guest on today’s “A Book and a Chat”, she is an author, writer, professional genealogist, radio show host, historian, speaker, project manager, real estate agent and advocate for mental health care and rights.  As well as mother of six girls, so it is in a way surprising that Vangie managed to find time to appear on the show. However like her life she managed to fill the whole show with interesting and entertaining discussion.

Not satisfied with writing one book in the series Vangie already has others either part written or being planned, in fact the Broken Life Journals is a ten book series and along the way Vangie has written a Paranormal Romance novel called “Whisper“.

The Broken Life Journals are the story of love cursed in Old Africa.

A young African maiden falls in love with a Frenchman captured by her father’s warriors.  As she watches and cares for him over the next twenty-one days, she is captivated by his beautiful green eyes and his genuine smile and breaks tribal law when she asks her father to be his bride instead of her chosen husband.  Her father King Sundiata could not refuse his youngest daughter and allows her to leave Africa with the Frenchman; what she doesn’t know is that the tribal shaman has placed a curse on her and all of her female descendants.

21 suns you feel in love and left your people, 21 moons shall you love your girl child.

Fast forward to 2002 and young Bethel began having vivid dreams of African and French women who speak to her and show her the paths of their lives.  For the next 10 years of her life, she listens, learns and writes the story of each of her matriatic ancestors.

Broken Life – A Fight for Forever – Book 1 is about Marguerite, the third women in her dreams and the woman who writes the first entry in the journal that her deceased mother left her.  Her dreams are so vivid that she is a shadow watching the past in the future.  As Marguerite reveals the past through visions of her travels from New York through the volatile south back to France, the rigorous fight to break the curse’s menacing grip steadily climaxes as young Bethel gains wisdom through her visions as well as the truths spoken from her father’s reluctant tongue and through the cherished wooden box, a treasured but mysterious heirloom, which connects Bethel to both the curse and a counter to the same. Upon possessing the box, she discovers the nearly elusive path to victory through the journals marked by each of the women of her bloodline. Through a series of visions, which first take her to the mid 1800’s, she sees the way…to the fight for forever.

Other planned title include:

·    A Fight for Forever- Marguerite Ahok (Worthy of Love) Chevalier, the years 1844 – 1845

·    A Memory Not Forgotten – Magdalene Taurean (Strong as a Bull) Burnett, the years 1862 – 1864

·    Moving Forward – Sarah Tandis, the years 1885 – 1886

·    A Loss for Words – Ines Kendis (Pure), the years 1903 – 1904

·    Home to France – Lena Niesha (Pure), the years 1918 – 1919

·    A World in Turmoil – Alicia Yetty (Ruler of the household), the years 1937 – 1938

·    New Freedom – Zoe Gaynell (Happy or Shiney), the years 1953 – 1954

·    A Soldier’s Battle – Clara Ananda (Worthy of Love), the years 1972 – 1973

·    Peaceful Endings – Bethel Temima (It is Heard), the years 1992 – 1993

·    A Friend Found – Sidone Kesia (It is Heard-Earth Bound), the years 2012-2013

Author Donna “Cygnet” Brown or as the name she writes under “Cygnet Brown” was interested in writing from an early age, but as with many of us life overtook her creative talents. Many years later and during some difficult times Donna found the creative muse calling her again.

With this renewed passion, she wrote her first book in The Locket Saga: When God Turned His Head. She also began writing articles for Mother Earth News, Ehow, Busika, info barrel, and Hubpages.

About “The Locket Saga”

“When God Turned His Head”:

Beautiful Drusilla was in love with Kanter Thorton but to protect him she was forced to marry another man. After years of abuse her husband is poisoned and all eyes are on her as the likely suspect. Only Kanter and a young lawyer named John Adams believe she is innocent. Discover what it took for Drusilla to truly be set free in this drama set in the backdrop of Post-Puritan/Pre-Revolutionary War Boston

The Locket Saga continues with book two “Soldiers Don’t Cry” daughter Elizabeth wears the locket.

Despite Elizabeth’s patriotic loyalties, she falls in love with a British officer. As young children, Elizabeth Thorton and Philip Randolph met in the frontier of Western Pennsylvania in 1763. For years, the Atlantic Ocean separated them, but now years later, the conflict brewing between the British Empire and the American colonies brought them back together. What is it that keeps Phillip from remembering his childhood and how is it the key to his and Elizabeth’s love for one another?

With book three already underway this historical romance series looks to be one many will follow.

As one reviewer put it…

Descriptive and well written i found myself unable to put it down. The characters were likable, Elizabeth is my favorite. Her passion for what she believed in overriding everything else. The conflicted romance between Elizabeth and Philip kept me hooked all the way through wanting to know how they could overcome it. A very enjoyable book, i will definitely be reading more from this author.

I think many will be reading more of Donna “Cygnet” Brown

After six shows about bullying it is good to get back to my normal format, not that I have not enjoyed and found very informational the shows on the bullying subject. I could not have asked for a better guest to get back into the old routine than New York Times and USA Today and International best selling and award winning Historical Romance author Danelle (yes that’s spelt right) Harmon.

Danelle has a life that almost matches her own writings when it comes to romance, leaving her home and family and travelling 3000 miles to be with somebody she’d met and fallen in love with on the internet.  Having been in the same boat… rather airplane as her but while my trip was from the UK to the USA, Danelle followed her heart to be with and marry the man she’d fallen in love with in England.

As Danelle describes it…

How did a Yankee girl who used to be a 1775-era minuteman in a Boston re-enactment group end up in ENGLAND, of all places? Well, in 1994, I met a wonderful man over the Internet. He was handsome, intelligent, all that a romantic hero should be… but there was just one little catch — he was English, and lived 3,000 miles away! Love always wins in the end, though, and following a romantic courtship in which our gilded coaches bore the names “British Airways” and “Virgin Atlantic,” the good doctor from England asked me to marry him.

This romance can be found in her award winning historical romance books which have received many hundreds of fantastic reviews on Amazon.

From her first book “Pirate in Arms” to her “Hero’s of the Sea” and “De Montforte” series the name Danelle Harmon has become one that all lovers of historical romance have read an enjoyed. Indeed her book “The Wild One” (first in the “De Montforte” series) has well over 500 reviews on Amazon.

Now after a break to start and raise a family, Danelle is back not only with her books being now released in updated EBook format, but with a fresh book in the “De Montforte” series heading for  the publisher.

About “The Wild One”: (taken from Amazon)

Lord Gareth de Montforte is an irresponsible, fun-loving rake when beautiful Juliet Paige arrives from America with his late brother’s baby, hoping to give the child a name. Gareth impulsively weds her, only to discover he wasn’t ready for all the responsibilities of marriage and fatherhood. They’re in for plenty of trouble and heartache, until they discover that their love can overcome anything.

Danelle was described in -Laurie Likes Books thus…

Author Danelle Harmon is known on the ‘Net for her fiery demeanor and the romantic way in which she met her husband. She is also known as an author’s author — witness Julia Quinn’s comments about her, “Danelle is one of maybe four writers I will buy without even looking at the back cover copy. People hold on to her books, and with good reason.”

A great show, with a great author. So listen now and share an interesting, and entertaining show as I chat with my special guest today on A Book and a Chat with Danelle Harmon

My guest on today’s “A Book and a Chat” is historical romance writer “Holly
Bush

Holly was raised in a house full of books she is a voracious reader of a
wide variety of fiction and non-fiction and has been writing all her life.

Life delayed her blossoming into the writer that she has become, in fact she
actually wrote two of her books while watching her daughter playing softball.

In 2011 however she produced her first historical romance book “Romancing Olive
set as are her other books in the late 1800’s.

This first book firmly put the name Holly Bush on the historical romance
ladder, receiving many praise worthy reviews about her novels and story lines.

This early success was soon followed by a second and equally successful book “Train
Station Brid
e”.

Again set in the late 1800’s and with more travel by train (there is a book
coming soon with travel by a boat instead of a train…honest). The again
received a very warm response with such comments as

“”Train Station Bride is a beautiful tale of love, family and
redemption . . . I could smell the bread baking in the oven and hear the corn
stalks rustling in the field. Train Station Bride is the perfect historical
romance.”

Now Holly has produced a new historical romance novel “Reconstructing
Jackson

About “Reconstructing Jackson” : (taken from Amazon)

1867 . . . Southern lawyer and Civil War veteran, Reed Jackson, returns to
his family’s plantation in a wheelchair. His father deems him unfit, and deeds
the Jackson holdings, including his intended bride, to a younger brother. Angry
and bitter, Reed moves west to Fenton, Missouri, home to a cousin with a
successful business, intending to start over.

Belle Richards, a dirt poor farm girl aching to learn how to read, cleans,
cooks and holds together her family’s meager property. A violent brother and a
drunken father plot to marry her off, and gain a new horse in the bargain. But
Belle’s got other plans, and risks her life to reach them.

Reed is captivated by Belle from their first meeting, but wheelchair bound, is
unable to protect her from violence. Bleak times will challenge Reed and
Belle’s courage and dreams as they forge a new beginning from the ashes of war
and ignorance.

The book contains enough language and love scenes to make it believable and
has received reviews such as…

I felt like I was transported through time…it has romance, history, villains and heroes…wonderful. One of the things I like most about Holly’s
novels is that they are so realistic. The love scenes are just enough…if
there is a bad guy…there is bad language (just enough…again believable).
You are outraged in parts…can understand why Jackson feels how he does and
even the hatred some of the other characters hold on to. I loved, loved, loved
this book.

With a new book “Cross the Ocean” (yes a boat not a train) coming soon, the
name Holly Bush is one that many historical readers will be looking for on the
book shelves.
